Tentu saja bukan spons biasa, melainkan spons berskala mikroskopis (sangat kecil) yang bernama <i data-path-to-node=\"3\" data-index-in-node=\"205\">Metal-Organic Frameworks<\/i> atau biasa disingkat MOFs.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4\">Saat ini, MOFs lagi jadi primadona di dunia sains dan teknologi. Tapi, barang apa sih sebenarnya MOFs ini, dan kenapa semua ilmuwan membicarakannya?<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"5\">Seperti Mainan Lego yang Bolong-Bolong<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"6\">Kalau dibayangkan, bentuk MOFs ini persis seperti mainan bongkar pasang atau balok Lego. Bedanya, MOFs terbuat dari dua bahan dasar: logam (sebagai titik penyambung) dan bahan organik (sebagai batang penghubungnya).<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\">Keduanya saling mengikat dan membentuk sebuah kerangka berongga. Ibaratnya seperti rangka sebuah gedung bertingkat yang belum dipasangi tembok\u2014banyak ruang kosongnya. Karena kita bisa bebas memilih jenis &#8220;logam&#8221; dan &#8220;batang penghubung&#8221; apa yang mau dipakai, kita bisa mengatur seberapa besar ukuran bolongan atau pori-porinya sesuai kebutuhan.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"8\">Spons Super yang Luasnya Bikin Geleng Kepala<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\">Kehebatan utama MOFs ada pada ruang kosong di dalamnya. Saking banyaknya pori-pori mikroskopis di material ini, kalau kita mengambil satu gram saja bubuk MOFs (kira-kira seujung sendok teh) dan membentangkan seluruh rongga di dalamnya, luasnya bisa setara dengan <b data-path-to-node=\"9\" data-index-in-node=\"263\">satu lapangan sepak bola!<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\">Karena punya ruang simpan rahasia yang sangat luas inilah, MOFs berfungsi seperti spons ajaib yang bisa menjebak, menyimpan, atau menyaring gas-gas tertentu dengan sangat akurat.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"11\">Untuk Apa Saja Spons Ajaib Ini Dipakai?<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12\">Kemampuan MOFs menyerap gas ini ternyata sangat berguna untuk mengatasi berbagai masalah besar di bumi, lho. Berikut adalah beberapa kegunaannya:<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13\"><b data-path-to-node=\"13\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">1. Saringan Asap Jahat (Penangkap Karbon)<\/b> Pabrik-pabrik biasanya mengeluarkan asap kotor yang mengandung karbon dioksida (CO2) penyebab pemanasan global. Nah, MOFs bisa dipasang di cerobong asap sebagai saringan pintar. Bolongan pada MOFs bisa diatur ukurannya supaya cuma menangkap gas CO2 saja, sementara udara bersih tetap bisa lewat dengan bebas.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14\"><b data-path-to-node=\"14\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">2. Tangki Bahan Bakar Masa Depan<\/b> Hidrogen digadang-gadang jadi bahan bakar masa depan karena asap buangnya cuma berupa air. Sayangnya, gas hidrogen sangat ringan dan butuh tangki raksasa bertekanan tinggi untuk menyimpannya. Dengan MOFs, gas hidrogen bisa diserap masuk ke dalam pori-porinya. Hasilnya? Kita bisa menyimpan lebih banyak bahan bakar di dalam tangki yang jauh lebih kecil dan aman.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"15\"><b data-path-to-node=\"15\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">3. Jalan Pintas Reaksi Kimia<\/b> Di dalam industri, membuat suatu produk (misalnya obat atau plastik) sering kali butuh proses pencampuran bahan kimia yang rumit dan butuh panas tinggi. Nah, pori-pori MOFs bisa bertindak sebagai &#8220;asisten&#8221; yang mempercepat bahan-bahan kimia tersebut untuk bereaksi.
