Sebagai organisme fotosintetik, alga memiliki kemampuan tinggi dalam menyerap karbon dioksida, menjadikannya solusi untuk mengurangi emisi gas rumah kaca sekaligus menghasilkan energi. Kecepatan pertumbuhan alga yang luar biasa dan kemampuannya hidup di berbagai kondisi, termasuk lahan tidak subur atau air laut, membuatnya tidak bersaing dengan kebutuhan pangan manusia.<\/p>\n<p>Biofuel berbasis alga terutama dihasilkan dari lipid yang terkandung dalam biomassa alga. Lipid ini dapat diolah menjadi biodiesel atau bahan bakar lain yang bersih dan terbarukan. Dibandingkan dengan bahan bakar fosil, biofuel alga menghasilkan emisi karbon yang jauh lebih rendah saat digunakan. Selain itu, alga memiliki efisiensi produktivitas yang jauh lebih tinggi dibandingkan tanaman biofuel lainnya, seperti jagung atau kedelai.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Namun, tantangan besar dalam produksi biofuel dari alga adalah biaya tinggi dan kebutuhan energi yang signifikan dalam proses kultivasi, pemanenan, dan ekstraksi minyak. Untuk mengatasi kendala ini, berbagai teknologi inovatif telah dikembangkan, termasuk bioreaktor fotobiologi yang memungkinkan peningkatan produktivitas dan efisiensi energi. Optimalisasi proses melalui rekayasa genetika juga sedang diteliti untuk menghasilkan strain alga dengan kandungan lipid lebih tinggi.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-315 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/himatemia.eng.unila.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/alga-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/himatemia.eng.unila.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/alga-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/himatemia.eng.unila.ac.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/alga.jpg 520w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Di Indonesia, pengembangan biofuel berbasis alga memiliki potensi besar mengingat ketersediaan sumber daya alam yang melimpah, terutama lahan pesisir dan air laut. Pemanfaatan alga sebagai sumber energi dapat mendukung target transisi energi terbarukan nasional, sekaligus membuka peluang ekonomi baru di sektor bioenergi.<\/p>\n<p>Dengan investasi teknologi dan kebijakan yang mendukung, biofuel berbasis alga dapat menjadi solusi berkelanjutan dalam memenuhi kebutuhan energi global.
